Dave,
I'm a 54 year old that has moved from backpacking to bike touring (easier on my feet) and I wanted to tell you that my Black Star panniers withstood a rainy week on Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. They're tough, waterproof and seem to be chasm-like with storage space. Clothes, camping gear, food, and drink fit nicely with room to spare. I use the two rear bags to bike to my local IGA for food shopping. I can get 4 grocery bags worth into the rears alone. AWESOME! Thanks for the great bags.
